Frequently asked questions
How do I open a book?
Tap the folder button on the home screen and pick a file in the Android file picker. You can also open a PDF or DjVu file from your file manager, browser downloads or a messaging app with "Open with" or "Share" and choose Simple Reader.
Why doesn't the app find my books automatically?
Android 11 and later no longer let apps scan all files on your phone without broad storage access. Simple Reader only opens the files you choose, so it needs no storage permission. Every book you open stays on the recent shelf.
Where are my books stored?
Books you open are copied into the app's own storage
(Android/data/com.delight.ereader/files/Books), so they reopen instantly and keep your
last page. Your original file is not changed. To free space, long-press a book on the shelf and choose
File operations → Delete book.
How do I read in the dark?
While reading, open the menu and turn on Day/Night. Night mode shows white text on a black background.
The pages have wide white margins. Can I remove them?
Turn on "Crop pages (auto)" in the reading menu, or use Manual crop to set the margins yourself. "Split pages" shows the two halves of a scanned double page one after the other.
Which formats are supported?
PDF, XPS/OXPS, DjVu, CBZ and FB2 (also .fb2.zip). EPUB and Word documents are not supported.
